Our lesson was taught today by Megan Schmidt on prayer and having better communication with our Heavenly Father. She talked about our prayer and had said some questions that we just pondered. The questions were:
*Have you ever felt unworthy to pray?
*Have your prayers ever felt repetitive?
*How can we improve our prayers?
In the Bible Dictionary under prayer, it says "As soon as we learn the true relationship in which we stand toward God (namely, God is our Father, and we are his children), then at once prayer becomes natural and instinctive on our part (Matt. 7:7–11). Many of the so-called difficulties about prayer arise from forgetting this relationship." Sis. Schmidt talked about our relationship with our Heavenly Father and how sometimes it may feel like our spirituality goes like a roller coaster, up and down. Sis. Schmidt asked what we should do to help our prayers even in times that are going well in lives. Sisters mentioned serving others, scripture study, and attending the temple. One of the sisters said that mainly it is having charity for others.
Sister Schmidt asked us later what things maybe keep us from developing spiritually. SOme of the sisters listed embarrassment, lack of sleep, fear, anger, discouragement, sin, etc. Sis. Schmidt challenged us maybe to think of what personally keep us from developing spiritually, and to pray and work on it this coming week.
How grateful I am for prayer and that I can communicate with my father in heaven. Prayer has truly blessed my life. As mentioned in class, in the times when we don't want to pray or feel we shouldn't pray are the times we need to pray the MOST! I know that my Redeemer lives. I know that Heavenly Father lives and that he is the father of our spirit.
