Today, Sis. Monica Geary taught our lesson on the Word of Wisdom. It came out of the Gospel Principles Manual, chapter 29. Sis. Geary talked about the history of the word of wisdom and then talked about how she wanted to focus on the "Do's" a lot for this lesson, since we all are usually fully aware of the "Don'ts". We briefly discussed the "Don'ts" and the importance in following the Prophet and being aware of traps of addictions...in all forms. Then Sis. Geary talked about what the Word of Wisdom does say, about eating fruits, vegetables and grain and eating meat sparingly. The Sisters discussed how the physical can be tied so much to the spiritual and how important it is to take care of our bodies. We fought in Heaven for Agency and to have bodies. How lucky we are to have them.
Finally, as her final point, Sis. Geary emphasized that it is about health. As women, sometimes we get distracted by what the world would have us be. Sometimes we may confuse the word of wisdom as the way of making us skinny, beautiful, and more attractive. However, the "World's View" of beauty is extremely flawed. We are daughters of our Heavenly Father who LOVES Us, every bit of us, no matter if we short, freckled, lean, tall, big, or small Or ORANGE (sorry...for some reason, "Remember the Titans" popped in my head---if you want to see the clip of the scene move to about 7:30). The important part is take care of our bodies by following the Word of Wisdom, praying for guidance and listening to the Spirit.
I know the Lord hears our prayers. I know that great blessings are in store for us as we follow the Word of Wisdom and that the Lord will help and bless us as we lean on him, ponder, pray, study and ask for his help.
