Lesson: The Temple (Combined)

Today we had a combined lesson taught by a couple that serves in the Logan Temple (I'm sorry, but I can't remember their names.  They were invited to speak by our Bishop).  It was a lovely talk.  First the wife spoke and then the husband.  The couple spoke on the strength that comes from going to the temple and that we need to set the date and go.  They warned how Satan will try to keep us from going to the temple...as the wife shared, she said that at 3:30 in the morning, her bed feels really comfortable and it can be hard to get up, but she goes anyway and always comes out the temple with the most wonderful feeling, that why would she ever deny herself that opportunity.  

Her husband shared the scripture, Malachi 4:5-6.  He talked about how important the covenants are that we make in the temple and to honor them so that the day truly will be "great" for us.  The covenants made are important and necessary and we have a wonderful opportunity to help those who did not have the chance to receive those covenants, that they can have that opportunity.  

At the end of their lesson, the couple shared a list written by President Featherstone (sp?).  It says on the paper,
YOU ARE INVITED
...to spend a half day (or even a full day) in the temple each month.

Here is what monthly temple participation will do for you:
1. If a man, you will be come mighty; if a woman, powerful.
2.  It will serve as great "insurance protection" for your marriage.
3.  The blessings of the Eternal Gods will be called down upon you, and great spiritual growth will be yours.
4. Unseen angels will watch over your loved ones when Satanic forces tempt them.
5.  Your families will draw close tot he Lord and there will be no empty chairs in the Celestial Kingdom.
6.  Your children will go on missions.
7.  Your children will get married in the temple.
8.  The veil will be thin, you will have great spiritual growth, and many spiritual experiences will distill upon you.
9.  You will be prepared for exaltation -- with a celestial body, a celestial mind, and a celestial personality.
10.  You will become receptive to divine guidance and you will receive spiritual perception to help you grapple with your problems and cares.
11.  You will see clearly how to make critical decisions that weigh heavily on your mind.
12.  You will become Christlike.

I know that the Temple is the House of the Lord.  I know that power comes from going to the temple and doing the Lord's work.  I know that by keeping ourselves worthy of the temple and honoring our covenants, our families can be protected and the blessings of heaven will truly pour out on our homes.  I am so grateful to have a temple so close and that temples literally dot the earth.  I hope that I can recommit myself to increase my personal temple attendance to help my family and help us grow closer to our Heavenly Father.

I hope all of us can increase our temple attendance.  I know this can be difficult with having children and coordinating babysitting, but if you would like help and need babysitting, please let us know.  I'm sure that many sisters in the Relief Society would LOVE to trade babysitting.  Don't sit quietly.  Let us know so we can all help each other to go to the temple more often.
